Transportation

Clarington is actively working on enhancing and expanding transportation options across the Municipality to facilitate the movement of goods and people.

Two new stations, in Courtice and Bowmanville, will transform those communities and further connect Clarington to the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area – and beyond.

Clarington and Durham Region have shown leadership and innovation in facilitating the construction of GO Train stations. The Transportation for the Future Act, 2023 (Bill 131), would, if enacted, provide prescribed municipalities with the ability to impose transit station charges on development to pay for costs related to the construction of a new GO Transit station in prescribed areas. This charge would assist in the funding of the two GO Train stations in Bowmanville and Courtice. The extension of the GO Train to Clarington is expected to support and drive development in both Courtice and Bowmanville.

Secondary Plans

The Municipality is developing the Courtice Transit-Oriented Community Secondary Plan and the Bowmanville West Major Transit Area Secondary Plan to dramatically enhance GO Train service to Clarington and enable connections to the Durham Region Transit network. Read about how these projects will transform their communities.

Transportation Hubs

Clarington is developing a vision for the transportation hubs centred around the future Courtice and Bowmanville GO Stations—so that these areas become more than just train stations: they become destinations.
